As far as I know: No.

Of course, he could always try using a different browser (Opera comes to mind). I don't know how places can be "IE Only" anymore.

Alright, I said I would talk about MinimizetoTray so here it is. At work, I always have to have Thunderbird and Firefox open. It was taking up some valuable taskbar space, so I went hunting for a way to minimize things to the lower-right "tray".

Firefox
1. Click on the green "Install Now" and follow the instructions.
2. Restart Firefox as it prompts.
3. Go to "Tools > Add-ons > MinimizeToTray > Options" to minimize to tray automatically.

Thunderbird
1. It is the SAME LINK as before, except you need to right-click and "Save As..." the file to your computer.
2. Also download this .xpi file.
3. Open Thunderbird and go to "Tools > Add-ons > Install". Find the .xpi file you saved. First do the MinimizeToTray, restart Thunderbird, and repeat steps for MinimizeToTray Enhancer.
4. Go to "Tools > Add-ons > MinimizeToTray OR MinimizeToTray Enhancer > Options" to set preferences.

And as a bonus, I'll tell you how to minimize iTunes to your taskbar! (Note: I am using an older version, but instructions should still be the same.)
1. Load iTunes.
2. Go to "Edit > Preferences" (or hit Ctrl+,)
3. Go to the "Advanced" tab.
4. At the bottom, check both "Show iTunes icon in system tray" and "Minimize iTunes window to system tray".

Enjoy!

PS: Don't forget to close out of these windows! Having them run in the background does take up a load of memory if you are trying to do other things (ie: watch videos or play games).

Is the minimizetotray add-on entirely necessary?  I mean, I am unsure if I need it as I usually have a lot of room.  Do you have any screen shots of what it looks likes, perhaps I am confused to exactly what it does.

It is not entirely necessary, but in my workplace, these windows (especially TBird) always need to be open. I am also very anal about taskbar "real-estate", so it's just a way for me to keep semi-organized chaos. It was nice being able to have Photoshop and Flash 8 in my taskbar, and not being too cluttered with my browser or mail client.

You can customize it so that it will only minimize to tray when you: hit Ctrl+Shift+M, when you minimize, or when you close the window. I think that minimizing on close is twice as much work, but at least they have the feature. One downside, however, is that I cannot alt-tab to these windows while they're in the tray. It's Windows, however, not Firefox.

Edit: It was also nice to have my current music player (from projectplaylist), kept minimized to tray. I have no reason to look at it unless I wanna add music.

Hey does anyone (and that means Steve, normally) how to change the options when you right click on something?  When you're reading something in Firefox, you can highlight the text and right click and it asks options like "Search answers.com for 'Steve Trevino'" and asks about tagging it and what not.  Is there anyway to add things in there?  I would like to possibly put dictionary.com in there and maybe wikipedia and Google search.

Top of my head, there is no easy way to add things to right-click.

To change the "Answers.com" result to something else, you need to change the search engine in the upper right (to the right of the address bar). To add more search engines to that menu, go here.

Another question.  For some reason, Firefox and USI's Blackboard discussion board applet don't like to get along.  Everytime I go to the site and try to post something, Firefox freezes on me.  I close out of and try to open another window and it says Firefox is busy.  I manually have to end the Firefox process for it to work.  I'm not sure why it fails at this one site and why IE seems to work fine.

Is there something I can download that would update my browser to be compatible with this applet?  Is my Firefox defective in some way?  I thought about reinstalling, but if I do, would I lose all of my bookmarks and what not?

UAH just switched to Blackboard and for some reason Blackboard doesn't work with Firefox. It was bad because at first Blackboard told UAH to use Firefox with Blackboard. My friends and I notice that the discussion doesn't work unless one user is using IE or it works fine as long as you use IE. But what was really bad is that we just took a test on Blackboard and some of the people that used Firefox didn't see the equations for some of the problems. Needles to say it caused a riot and my prof is not happy with Blackboard at all. So, my prof called Blackboard and Blackboard said that they meant for us to use IE. Blackboard says that they know about the problem with Firefox but are not in any rush to fix it. They told us to just use IE when using Blackboard for now. Sorry Drew but this time you need to use IE.

I'll try to keep you updated as I learn about Blackboard and Firefox because, like you, many people want to use Firefox with Blackboard so my prof is keeping us informed with the situation.

Sites being compatible with IE, but not with Firefox is an all but common problem in the Web standards world. It's a huge sign of laziness with the developer, and until Firefox makes a huge dent (>45%), I have a feeling we'll be seeing it more and more. Sites very rarely work with IE, and in order to make them work, one must hack up the site to do so, in return, butchering the Firefox/Safari/.Opera/etc. rendering of the site. Though I can relate to the developers being angry with different browsers rendering, it just shows one is too lazy to make it work. IMHO, developers who can't make it work in both Standard-Following browsers and IE should start supporting the others, and spread the word. Who knows, if enough big named places do it, it might help change things for the better.

List of things LRN should do before re-installing Firefox:

Cook Nick a chicken sandwich.
Mail it to Nick.
Forget to send dessert and make said dessert.
Mail that to Nick
Reformat hard drive.
Install Linux on newly reformated harddrive.
Realize you dont know what Linux is.
RE-reformat hard drive.
Watch new commercial about windows mojave.
Attempt to download "CRACKED VERSION OF MOJAVE"
realize you actually downloaded lots of goat pron.
reformat hard drive once more

reinstall firefox

I think you found out that your Windows was corrupted. Please let us know when you get things fixed. You likely need a reinstall or to load up a restore point (Dell offers a restore to factory settings on their CD).
