Drag Me to Hell is AWESOME. It's a weird mix of gross, funny, and scary, and my dislike for Justin Long was tempered by my love of Alison Lohman. Great score by Christopher Young as well. 4 Rief-stars. Let the Right One In is also great, mostly because it's completely different than Hollywood would make a vampire movie. I don't even think you could call it a "horror" film. It takes its time, its moves along quietly and smoothly, it's well-acted, and it's visually a very beautiful film. 4.5 Rief-stars. Film: <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0304141/" target="_blank">Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban</a> Composer: <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0002354/" target="_blank">John Williams</a> Azkaban is the best Potter movie for a number of reasons: it's <a href="http://api.ning.com/files/etIoHLFsPpnGGZIusvX-oz6d9fXbJgKZ*ksWc*wT9rE0VAupdkzMQ9yFX0bkhJ-Sj5wqlsAEZcDEtxZ2g-aQPj7zWUkNa1bI/HP_PRISONER_OF_AZKABAN_DISC1369.jpg" target="_blank">stylish</a> and smart, its flow is wonderfully smooth, it has the best <a href="http://www.legalmoviesdownloads.com/still-frames-movie-pictures/harry-potter-and-the-prisoner-of-azkaban/harry-potter-and-the-prisoner-of-azkaban-18-gary-oldman-david-thewlis-rupert-grint-daniel-radcliffe-emma-watson-harry-potter-hermione-granger-sirius-black-ron-weasley-remus-lupin-.jpg" target="_blank">combination of actors and actresses</a> and some of the best performances by said actors/actresses (lookin' at <a href="http://images.allmoviephoto.com/2004_Harry_Potter_and_the_Prisoner_of_Azkaban/2003_harry_potter_and_prisoner_of_azkaban_003.jpg" target="_blank">Dumbledore</a>), the <a href="http://www.dvd.net.au/movies/h/11266-2.jpg" target="_blank">effects</a> are worlds better than the first two, and when it takes liberties with the book (and it does, much more than the first two), it does so in a way that makes sense and enhances the movie rather than detracts. But the icing on the cake is that Azkaban is the last Potter film with a John Williams score. Some of the wonder and freshness of the first films is lost by the time we get to three, and Williams jumps right on this, throwing out a lot of his innocent-sounding ring-dingy material from the first two and replacing it with darker, often less-thematic material. You need only listen to "Apparition on the Train" (first appearance of a <a href="http://professorsnute.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/.pond/dementor.jpg.w560h420.jpg" target="_blank">dementor</a>) or "The Dementors Converge" to get a feel for this. This dark tone is reflected in a more bombastic way in other tracks; The Whomping Willow and Werewolf tracks have a wonderful "dun dun BOOM dun dun dun OH SHIT" feel to them. In the same vein, "Quidditch, Third Year," is also fast-paced, frightening, and tremendously fun. Thematic material is still present, however. The main theme is presented at the beginning with slightly different instrumentation and is, hands down, my favorite rendition of the Harry Potter theme. The arrival at Hogwarts—"Double Trouble"—has the charm of the first two movies, albeit with a creepy twist (courtesy of Shakespeare's MacBeth). "Aunt Marge's Waltz" is everything the Aunt Marge scene is: fun, quick, and ridiculous. Finally, "A Window to the Past" is a breathtakingly beautiful piece, full of a kind of wistful longing, which is brought back in the "Finale" (as well as the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=md83SeFG9VQ&feature=related" target="_blank">Goblet of Fire</a> trailer). It's probably my favorite Harry Potter theme (toss-up between that and the main theme). Verdict: Three cheers for John Williams and 4 Rief-stars for his score Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
