Doctor Who fanatics (Who-heads, Whosians, et al) are probably already aware of the news, but news has been released that the seven surviving doctors will appear in one show to be broadcast November 17th for BBC’s Children in Need charity. The seven Doctors appearing would be David Tennant (10th doctor), Christopher Eccleston (9th), Paul Mcgann (8th), Sylvestor McCoy (7th), Colin Baker (6th), Peter Davision (5th), and perhaps my favorite, Tom Baker (4th). For those wanting to match faces, the image to the right is clockwise in order. Baker has the scarf, Tennant in the brown vest.

Although it would be nice to see all the doctors play a lead role in the episode, I imagine they will be introduced as former reincarnations and will play a brief part. Last year’s Children in Need mini-episode, Time Crash, featured David Tennant and Peter Davison. I was reminded of the episode The Three Doctors, which featured the first three doctors (William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee) in a four-part series celebrating Doctor Who’s 10-year anniversary.

Hopefully the Doctors can live up to their old images in order to keep the hardcore fans at ease and spark interest in the newer ones. Let me suggest for all to watch The Three Doctors before the November 17th broadcasting to show appreciation to all ten doctors.

South Park’s long awaited mid-season premiere was broadcast last night in an episode entitled “The China Probrem” (wiki/spoiler). I hope to watch it tonight and comment on it later, but people expected this one to be on-par with the Imaginationland episodes.

I can only hope that it is. See my unfortunate review below.

From South Park Studios:

Imaginationland (Part 1) (Part 2) (Part 3)

The China Probrem

Review (spoilers):
The episode wasn’t as epic as I believed, so I’m sorry if a lot of expectations were broken along with mine. The episode didn’t bring anything new to light and it never built past the introduction ideas.

You have to compare this episode with Free Hat because it previously showed Lucas & Spielberg with Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark, as well as the editing of all movies. Not to mention, “Free Hat” had a lot more laughable moments with Hat McCullough, Lucas bringing Spielberg to the dark side, the fresh island song, and Tweek’s uncertainty about the whole deal. The moral cut-scene of Free Hat describes how movies should be left in their purist form and not butchered for money.

Probrem had none of this. It’s side plot of Chinese takeover as an introduction, which was humorous to see the imitation of the Olympic opening drum ceremony. The attempts at humor really halts progression of the storyline, as 8+ scenes are given to groins being shot and recalling movie-based rape scenes. The moral of Probrem was left to the Cartman side plot, and how we need to accept China and not lose dignity. Cartman never really resolves this problem before giving us his resolution, he just gets tired of Butters poor aim. China’s real emergence was never shown (which made it a subplot since nothing was built upon)and we are not given a method for accepting.

I only hope the next episodes improve, as the mid-season break leaves expetations high to all the viewers. Last season’s mid-premiere, Le Petit Tourette, was what we needed after a break.

Michael Moore’s highly publicized political movie, Slacker Uprising (imdb), is available for free download to any US or Canadian resident. The movie runs 97 minutes long and features celebrities such as REM, Joan Baez, Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), Viggo Mortensen, Roseanne Barr, and others. As anyone can expect, this movie will be anti-republican (particularly anti-Bush) and feature Moore’s twist to push the youth into politics.

From Wikipedia:

Slacker Uprising is a movie of Michael Moore’s tour of colleges in battleground states during the 2004 election, with a goal to encourage 18-29 year olds to vote, and the response it received.

You can download Slacker Uprising here. The movie will be available there until Dec 31, although with the internet, it always will be availble elsewhere.

Microsoft has announced that the Gates-Seinfeld commercials/ads for Windows, which are part of a $300 million marketing campaign, are ending. New ads will be in place to combat Apple’s “PC vs Mac” instead of the subliminal “buy a churro” message, which I much more prefer.

Some claim that this is a planned phase in the Microsoft campaign, but I think after the millions of “wtf’s” were heard across the nation, Microsoft is shifting gears and putting up a defense. Microsoft is admitting that the Apple ads are hurting them, instead of taking it on the cheek and saying “Here, look at the Seinfeld. Look at the silly Seinfeld!” I, personally, would concede to the Chewbacca defense over any other.

Pink Floyd’s co-founder and keyboardist, Richard Wright, died today from cancer in his home in Britian. He was 65 years old.

Two of his well known compositions for Floyd were “The Great Gig in the Sky” and “Us and Them” from the album The Dark Side of the Moon. One of his earlier compositions was “Paintbox” off of Relics, which is a respected title amongst us in Evansville.
